It is not often that an optical store wins design accolades but the Kirk Originals flagship store in London is bucking the trend.

Last week store designers Campaign Design collected the LICC Interior Design Award for the Kirk Originals store on Conduit Street, a prestigious industry award.

In the same week, the store was also cited in a list of “11 insanely cool flagship stores” on Business Insider. That in itself is a huge honour but to be listed alongside the likes of Apple and Nike makes it even more gratifying.

Barton Perreira has collaborated with actor Giovanni Ribisi on two pairs of sunglasses, aptly named the Giovanni and the Ribisi. Both frames will retail at all of the luxury eyewear brand’s points of sale, includingBarneys New York, Neiman Marcus, and the Barton Perreira flagship in Aspen, CO.

The Giovanni sunglass has a classically timeless feel. The frame’s zyl embodies sophistication with its eloquent contours and bevels, creating a unique texture to the front surface of the frame. The Giovanni will have a 2012 Delivery.

The Ribisi frame is more retro-inspired and made of hand-crafted Japanese zyl with vintage mineral glass lenses. The color palette consists of classic tortoise and Havana colors, as well as black and champagne. These frames ship in November for a Holiday delivery. Both the Giovanni and Ribisi styles are unisex designs.

Ribisi’s bodies of work include Avatar, Contraband, Gangster Squad, and The Rum Diary. He was also Barton Perreira’sad campaign star in 2010 and 2011. While the actor is a novice to design, he said he’s always had an interest in the field.

“When Barton Perreira approached me about designing these frames, it was something I jumped on,” Ribisi said. “Sunglasses are intimate, especially to one’s individual identity because they sit on the face. It was challenging and I learned a lot, but it was an honor to work with the Barton Perreira team and a company that strives to create excellent product.

”Ribisi worked closely with Barton Perreira’s chief designer Patty Perreira in creating the frames.

“Giovanni has a very clear understanding of design and like myself, he is very much into the details,” said Perreira. “I believe it shows in the sunglass designs we collaborated on. He presented full scale 3-D renderings of the frames, which he createdhimself. Working with him was a delight.

After years of research MYKITA developed a material that offers unlimited design options, light weight and individual adaptability: MYLON.

The first MYKITA MYLON collection marks the foundation of a new product segment in the eyewear sector: luxury sports fashion. These frames were designed both for skiing down mountain slopes and also as classic sunglasses for everyday use.

MYLON frames boast extreme stability, low weight and outstanding durability. The key is a polyamide-based material to which MYKITA gave a new,patented surface finish — the first time the material was used for the production of spectacles. In addition, it’s thermal adaptability means the frames are fully adjustable to the wearer’s features. Selective Laser Sintering, an additive manufacturing technique used to create three-dimensional structures, enables MYLON spectacles to be moulded into any shape desired. A futuristic look for a futuristic material — this credo was decisive for the form vocabulary of the MYLON collection. Polygonal lenses, a sporty design and glasses as a protective element are the pivotal features of every MYKITA MYLON frame.

NOVA is the most striking model in the collection. The front shield and the top line, which hugs the head like a headband, are the defining features of this futuristic-looking specimen. The expansive glass front, offering protection from wind and water, is like a mix of vintage ski goggles and 3D-viewers for the cyberspace of the early 1990s. NOVA is available in the colours Sunshine, Storm and Pitch.

ARDEN and ICCO are the two feminine counterparts to NOVA. Both models stand for a form vocabulary that unifies avantgarde with sports: modified aviator forms, with rounded-off side contours and a vertical or trapezoidal bridge providing contrast. A conspicuous feature here is how the front is extruded backwards and smoothly merges into the temples, which MYKITA’s screwless hinges are cleverly integrated into in trademark style. The models are available in the black and brownish colours Pitch and Peat, with ARDEN additionally coming in the reddish Cinnabar tone.

CRISON is the sporty basic version of the aviator form. With a substantial top line, a slimmer fit and a round shape at the sides, the model is both a pair of sunglasses and a fashionable accessory. CRISON is available in the colours Pitch and Peat.

All MYKITA MYLON glasses are fitted with lenses from leading optical brand ZEISS, guaranteeing perfect visibility and top quality. Catering to the specific requirements of golfers, MYKITA and ZEISS also offer glass specially optimised to requirements out on the fairway. The material was colouradjusted by ZEISS for MYKITA so as to increase the contrast on the green; it is available for all MYLON models, except NOVA. The models can alternatively be ordered with polarising lenses that cut out unwelcome reflections.

Leisure Society, the ultra luxe eyewear collection from designer, Shane Baum, a member of the CFDA whose portfolio includes work for Louis Vuitton eyewear, recently announced the Spring/Summer 2012 Collection.

The Leisure Society Collection took over three years to develop and was originally launched in September 2010 with four sunglass and five ophthalmic frames. The sophomore Collection now expands to include seven sunglasses and ten ophthalmic frames. Each frame, an heirloom piece, is handmade in Japan by the world’s nest artisanal craftsmen and requires six hours to engrave, thereby limiting production to only four frames per day.
