SILMO 2010 saw Oliver Goldsmith, one of the most iconic names in eyewear, officially celebrate and showcase its top 20 sun styles of all time. The 84 year old family-run brand, managed by Claire Goldsmith, has selected the 20 most definitive and identifiable styles from the sunglasses archive to represent the brand in what it is calling it’s “OG: Icons” collection. Each frame selected has proven its worth and its role in defining trend and fashion in eyewear.
Oliver Goldsmith started his company in 1926 but the family ceased production in 1985 after a glittering and commendable 60 years of fashion design. 2005 saw Claire Goldsmith, re-launch OG with gusto. Thanks to Claire’s strong and passionate belief that it was time for a comeback from the family that literally defined fashion eyewear, then name has been catapulted back into the centre of the eyewear fashion world. Backed up with some of the most eclectic and iconic sunglass collections of our time. Oliver Goldsmith is once again a name people recognise. It’s a name that stands for ultimate quality, classic timeless design and a preservation of craftsmanship that sets the standards for all other eyewear brands.
Today’s reproductions of Oliver Goldsmith’s classic designs are selected and produced by Claire Goldsmith, his great granddaughter and a 4th generation Goldsmith. Using the perfectly stored archives she has been able to put together 5 years worth of strong collections presenting over 100 of the most iconic designs from her family’s back catalogue spanning the 1940’s – 1980’s.
“I feel that we are reaching a point now with OG where the most iconic designs in the archive have been presented. Whilst there are many more designs we could re-launch, it was never the plan to exhaust the archive and re-launch it all. I simply wanted to define OG’s place in fashion history and make sure it was a name that was celebrated for it contribution to the world of fashion.”
The ‘OG: ICONS” collection will contain the 20 most popular and iconic styles from the 100 that have been re-launched over the past 5 years. Favourites such as the bold and masculine MISTINGUETT or the 1950’s classic cats eye SOPHIA have been refreshed with a palate of new colours to suit any mood. The collection will be available in stores across Europe, USA, Canada & Australia from November 2010.
